Today was the due date for our 3D posters.

I did the Octahedron,

The Octahedron has 8 faces and 12 edges. It is a 3D shape that looks like 2 sqaure based pyramids stuck on the bottom of each other. The Octahedron symbolises reflection,compashion and healing. The name Octahedron is a greek term “Oktaedron”  witch means 8 faced. The Octahedron is now used for jewlery.

On the last day of camp we went up to the river at Taipa that leads out to the sea. First my group (Ruru) jumped of the warf  but there was no way I was doing that it was way to cold. Then we did sailing I went out with Madeline and it was awesome. After that we had our lunch break we ate and then basically everyone in our group played a massive game of piggy in the middle. Lastly we went paddle bording. It was to windy so we couldent go to the other side of the river like the other groups had so we paddeled along the shoreline insted. Me and Madeline went together on that as well but we got caught in the currets and a parent had to help save us.

On Wendsday we did the actual circus performance!!!! I was so nervous. But luckily me and Molly were the last people to do our acts. We were called up (our name was the chocolate lovers) and we found the equipment we needed we walked on to the stage and started our act I think we did really well and I am proud of myself that I went and did it. we made a few mistake but I think we did really well.

Me and Molly are doing a routine in circus with the flower sticks

First you cartwheel and pick the sticks up. Then you put the big stick on the floor and scoop it up and fling it to each other. Then Molly puts her flower stick down then I turn around and fling the stick back to her then she does the same to me. Then she picks up her flower stick and the we throw it to both sides and catch both sides. Lastly we throw it to each other catch it and bow.

Over the past couple weeks we have been learning about different plants some with healing properties.

I have been learning about manuka.

when you chew the seeds on the manuka plant they are  universally successful in helping with sore stomachs.

I have also been learning about Kanuka.

 Kanuka honey has  some antibacterial properties and  when the honey is put on a rash can be an effective treatment for  some skin diseases. 

And Karaka.

The leaves of karaka are used for medicine not the berries. For its medicinal use first place the glossy side of the leaf on the sore don’t use the rough side on your skin it is known to have harmful  effects. The leaf will draw out any puss from the infection.

Lastly celery pine

Celary pine doesn’t have any healing properties but the bark can be used to make red dye for ropes. And the white wood in the inside of the tree can be used to make wakas.

WENDSDAY 6TH OF MARCH                                                                                                                                               LILY

On monday we made scones with Michelle. I was paired with Heath. To mix in the butter you had to cut it up into cubes and mix it with your fingertips and keep doing that untill it resembled find bread crumbs. After adding the rest of the ingrediants we put it in the ovan. Onces it was cooked we set it to cool down and started to do this cutting out work sheet. When the scones had cooled down. We tasted the in my opinion they were quite dry but  were really yum when i got home and added butter to them.

Today we did handwrighting/letter forming.

We had to write:

sky grass dirt or ground is how we are learning the size and position of our letters for handwriting this term.

After writing that you had to bring you’re spelling and handwriting book up to Wheah Sarah  and she would give you a letter to practice. Once you had practiced it  and brought it up to Wheah Sarah you either had to practice again or you could go do your spelling menu.

What we did:

a CMYK image consists of four inks these coulors are:

1. Cyan

2. Magenta

3. Yellow

4. Black

We layerd these coulors of an image and noticed.

When you layerd two of the coulors and holded it up to the light the coulors mixed together.  When we added all 3 colours it looked like a actual picture. When we added the black the picture looked more realistic and it made a picture of a tui.

13th February 2024

Yesterday was my first day of tech. When i got to school in the morning i was so excited! When the bell rang for class to start the year sixes left to go in to Kauri class and the year sevens from Kauri came to our class.
In the morning we started 3 art projects. The first one we had to draw a place you like of a place that makes you calm and write your name over top. The second piece of art was Tim Burton art so basically you had to draw yourself as a character from the nightmare before Christmas. The third was you had to draw lots of circles and add patterns inside the circles.

After lunch we went to the school house i was doing food tech we made Piklets. I learned that for every extra 1/4 cup of flour you added you needed to add 1/4 of a tsp of banking powder .I was in a group with Gene and Nicole. Once we had finished making the batter we used the element on top of the stove we all had a go flipping the Pikelets but by far Gene was best so she flipped the rest we experimented with the batter make different shapes like a heart. After we fished making Piklets we gave some of them to the sowing group to try and then we cleaned up and went home.
